William Harry Sachs, known to all as Pete, of Union, MO departed this life in Union, MO on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, having reached the age of one hundred one years, two months and six days. Pete was born in University City, MO on October 27, 1922, son of Harry Sachs. As a young man he was united in marriage to Jeanette Marie Bienvinue and two children came to bless this union. Pete is survived by his son, William M. Sachs of Villa Ridge, MO; by his daughter, Nora Colbert of Washington, MO; by his grandson, Samuel Sachs of Villa Ridge, MO; by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his siblings. Pete was a Christian, having been raised in the Catholic faith and believing in the Lord as his Savior. Pete was proud to have served his country in the United States Army during World War II, entering on January 13, 1943 and receiving his honorable discharge on January 20, 1945, after attaining the rank of PFC and as a result of his dedicated service he was awarded the Purple Heart. During his working career he was employed as a carpenter and was a proud member of Carpenters District Council in St. Louis, MO, retiring after forty-six years of service. Pete was a member of both American Legion Post 347 and VFW Post 2482 in St. Clair, MO. He was a very giving and charitable man that enjoyed volunteering his time to assisting veterans and various charitable endeavors. He also enjoyed going to schools on Veterans Day to raise awareness, hunt for deer and turkey and go to car races. Pete was a very friendly and outgoing man that had a great sense of humor. What meant the most to him was time spent with family and friends. The love and fellowship they shared and many precious memories they created will be cherished by them all forever. A kind and loving father, grandfather, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and treasured friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO with Jim Johnston officiating. Interment with full military honors will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Memorials may be made to either American Legion Post 347 or VFW Post 2482 in St. Clair, MO.
