Verla Mae Perkins of Robertsville, MO departed this life in St. Clair, MO on Saturday, August 26, 2023, having reached the age of seventy-six years, ten months and one day. Verla was born in Robertsville, MO on October 25, 1946, daughter of Charles Edward Hulsey and Nutrie Berniece Hulsey nee Bland. On June 24, 1967 she was united in marriage to James Leroy Perkins and three children came to bless this union. Verla is survived by her sons, pastor James Darren Perkins and wife, Christie, of St. Clair, MO and Robert Perkins of Gerald, MO; by her daughter, Cynthia Ingram and husband, Shavar, of Washington, MO; by two brothers, Marvin Hulsey of Robertsville, MO and Earven Hulsey and wife, Lucille, of Robertsville, MO; by one sister, Carletta Hulsey of St. Clair, MO; by her grandchildren, Jessica Perkins and fiancé, Adam Elfrink, Tyler Perkins and fiancé, Heather Leigh, Autumn Perkins and husband, Tyler Emory, James Perkins, Gracie Ingram, Paxton Perkins, Chasity Ingram, Preston Perkins, Micah Ingram, Elijah Ingram, Josiah Ingram and Isaac Ingram; by her great-grandson, Keegan Perkins; by her godchildren, Will Hamell and shelly Hulsey; by nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. Verla was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Nutrie Hulsey; by her husband, James Perkins; by six brothers, Sam Wesley Hulsey, Alfred Hulsey, Rev. Charles Sherwood Hulsey, Harold Hulsey, Lenzie Bland and Curtis Hulsey; and by three sisters, Sherlean Atchison, Dorothy Generally and Loretta Hulsey. Verla was a Christian of the Baptist faith and member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Robertsville, MO. She made caring for her home and family her job in life and never tired of it. Verla loved to cook, read and tend to her flowers. She was a care giver at heart and enjoyed a good conversation. What meant most to her was time spent with family. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy and she cherished the time spent with them. The love they shared and many precious memories they created together will be held dear in their hearts forever. A kind and loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, god-mother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great and great-great-aunt, cousin and treasured friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by those who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO with Pastors Billy Brison and Darren Perkins officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Memorials may be made to Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Robertsville, MO. The family entrusted the care of their loved one to Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO.
