OBITUARY Dr. Thomas James Mitchell of St. Clair, MO, departed this life at his home, surrounded by the love of his family, on Monday, April 1, 2024, having reached the age of ninety years, nine months and sixteen days. Thomas was born in Washington, DC on June 14, 1933, son of Thomas Mitchell and Frances Mitchell nee Teacher. In May of 1978 he was united in marriage to Henrietta Ossendorf, known to all as Penny, and their families were joined as one. Thomas is survived by his wife, Penny Mitchell of St. Clair, MO; by his sons, Michael Mitchell of DeSoto, MO, Gary Mitchell of Imperial, MO and Lee Young and wife, Lisa, of Union, MO; by his daughter, Margie Mitchell of Hillsboro, MO; by his brother-in-law, Warren Lewis of Bowling Green, MO; by his grandchildren, Rachel Purschke, Michaela Mitchell, Christopher Mitchell, Loren Tyler and husband, Jason, Ardell Young, Avery Young and Adalee Young; by his great-grandchildren, Lillian and Lincoln Purschke and Mia and Kaiden Tyler; by nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Frances Mitchell. Thomas was a Christian and had been attending Eternal Promises Community Church in St. Clair, MO. He spent almost fifty years providing medical care to the community in his medical practice. In his younger years he enjoyed going boating and horseback riding. Thomas and Penny also enjoyed going to the movies and to dinner with friends and family. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan and loved watching and going to the games. What meant most to him was time spent with family. His family held a very special place in his heart, as he did in theirs. The love they shared and many precious memories they created together will be cherished by them all forever. A kind and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, great and great-great-uncle, cousin and treasured friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO with Pastor Jeff Tobler officiating. Interment will be in Crestview Memorial Park in St. Clair, MO. Memorials may be made to Eternal Promises Community Church in St. Clair, MO.
