OBITUARY

Shirley Ruth Day of St. Clair, MO, departed this life in St. Clair, MO on Thursday, February 19, 2026, having reached the age of eighty-six years, two months and one day. Shirley was born in Cullman, AL on December 18, 1939, daughter of Odie Mayhall and Velma Mayhall nee Shikles.

Shirley is survived by her four children, Tea Major of St. Clair, MO, Robert “Bob” Purcell of St. Clair, MO, Gina Devine and husband, James, of Maplewood, MO and Phillip Purcell of Lonedell, MO; by two siblings, Barbara Summers and Edward Mayhall and wife, Ricki; by ten grandchildren, Matthew Purcell, Stephanie Major, Pricilla Kelley, Lisa Devine, Jill Devine, Christopher Devine and wife, Jennifer, Jacqui Williams and husband, Alex, Justin Gaither and wife, Tracy, Travis Gaither and Grant Gaither; by nineteen great-grandchildren; by two great-great-grandchildren; by nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Odie and Velma Mayhall; by her husbands, Robert Purcell and Robert Day; by four siblings, Rober Mahall, Ferrell Mayhall, Buddy Mayhall and Sue Larkins; and by one grandchild, Robert Purcell.

A kind and loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, great and great-great-aunt, cousin and treasured friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

A private committal will be held at a later date. The family was served by Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO.
