OBITUARY Robert Eugene Smith of Sullivan, MO departed this life at his home on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, having reached the age of eighty-six years, three months and seven days. Robert was born in St. Louis, MO on July 29, 1939, son of Verner Charles Smith and Virginia Elizabeth Smith nee Guion. As a young man he was united in marriage and blessed to have five children. On November 5, 2022 he was united in marriage to Glenda Rae Mueller and their families were joined as one. Robert is survived by his wife, Glenda Smith; by four children, John Smith, Robert Smith, Kelly Biser and Robin Gildehaus; by seven step-children; by his siblings, Dennis Smith, Donald Smith, Vern Smith, Joann Pollard, Sharon Hanewinkel; by nine grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, one brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Verner and Virginia Smith; by one son, Ronald Smith; by one grandchild; and by one great-grandchild. Robert was a Christian and member of New Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Sullivan, MO, where he was very active in the church, cutting grass and helping in any way he could. He was a boilermaker by trade, a proud member of, and working primarily out of the union hall of International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers & Helpers, AFL-CIO Lodge 27 in St. Louis, MO, from 1964 until reaching the age of sixty-two. He was also employed by Ralston Purina in St. Louis, MO for about four years. Robert was always doing something, whether building things in his garage, especially bird houses, or painting. What meant most to him was time spent with family. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will be cherished by them all forever. A kind and loving husband, father, step-father, grandfather, step-grandfather, great-grandfather, step-great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great and great-great-uncle, cousin and treasured friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO with Rev. Dustin Love officiating. Interment will be in New Chapel Hill Cemetery in Sullivan, MO. Memorials may be made to New Chapel Hill Baptist Church.
