Robert F Schallenberg, known early on as "Firdel" then later to all as "Bob", 95, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2024, in O'Fallon, Missouri. Firdel or "Bob" was born and raised in Anaconda Missouri. He was the son of Walter and Evelyn Schallenberg. He was united in marriage to Alberta Ann Mester, known to most as Bert, on July 12, 1951 and two sons came to bless this union. As a young man, "Firdel" ( Bob ) started his career as a Truck Driver (privately owned) until an accident occurred resulting in a body injury. Upon healing he worked for St Louis County Water Company and then went on to be a Ford Car Salesman for Pundmann Ford – St Charles, Mo and eventually changed careers and became Pepsi Cola Branch Manager for Rufkahr Distributing and after 31 years retired with Pepsi Cola. Bob was a devoted Christian and 48-year member of First Baptist Church, O'Fallon. He also was an active member of Gideons International and helped ensure Gideon Bibles were being distributed to all who needed one. After Bob and his lovely wife Bert retired, they enjoyed traveling with their camper and often wintered in Mission, Texas. They made many wonderful Christian friends throughout the United States. Both he and Bert enjoyed craft fairs and enjoyed spending time outdoors, and Bob loved to fish. During one trip to Texas Bob and his sons caught over 40 Striper Bass from Texoma Lake in one morning. He was a kind and caring person, and helped Bert care for one of her sisters for many years. Nothing made Bob happier than spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many wonderful memories were created. Bob is survived by two sons, Robert L. Schallenberg and wife Mary, Parker, Texas, and Charles "Kevin" Schallenberg and wife Debbie, Foristell, Mo; three grandchildren, Sean Mullen and wife Rebecca, Plano, Texas, Dan Stokes and wife Arielle, Wright City, Mo and Bryan Stokes and wife Alex, St Peters, Mo; seven great-grandchildren, Ian and Collin Mullen, both of Plano, Texas; Hunter, Colt and Charlotte Stokes, all of St Peters, Mo; Austin and Sienna Stokes both of Wright City, Mo. And one sister Margaret Ahrens, Lake Ozark, Mo; many nieces; nephews; great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Alberta "Bert" Schallenberg (2015) and his parents, Walter and Evelyn Schallenberg . A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday February 26, 2024 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair, Mo with the Rev. Lee Sanders officiating. Interment will be held in Crestview Memorial Park, St. Clair.
