OBITUARY Richard James Stern of St. Clair, MO departed this life in his home, surrounded by the love of his family, on Saturday, June 1, 2024, having reached the age of ninety-one years, three months and fifteen days. Richard was born in Belleville, IL on February 17, 1933, son of Charles Stern and Florence Stern nee Catalina. On January 21, 1961 he was united in marriage to Karen Joann Hutchings and four children came to bless this union. Richard is survived by his wife, Karen Stern of St. Clair, MO; by three children, Kurt Stern of Sullivan, MO, Traci Monk and husband, Scott, of St. Clair, MO and Rick Stern of St. Louis, MO; by two sisters-in-law, Beverly Castelli and Sharon Kelly and husband, Bill; by his grandchildren, Erich Monk and wife, Lindsay, Addison Monk, Meghan Monk and Tyler Stern; by three great-grandchildren, cousins and many friends. Richard was preceded in death by his father, Charles Stern; by his mother, Florence Goacher; by his step-father, Keith Goacher; and by one son, Erich G. Stern. Richard was a Christian, having been raised in the Catholic faith and believing in the Lord as his Savior. He was proud to have served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. During his working career he was employed by Ameren Missouri as a lineman for thirty-nine and a half years. He enjoyed riding horses, collecting stamps and collecting and restoring old cars. He also enjoyed going fishing and camping. What meant most to him was time spent with family. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will be cherished by them all forever. A kind and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother-in-law, cousin and treasured friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
