OBITUARY Raymond Junior Courtway, known to most as Shorty, of St. Clair, MO departed this life in St. Clair on October 19, 2022, having reached the age of eighty-four years, four months and nine days. Shorty was born in Richwoods, MO on June 10, 1938, son of Raymond and Corene Courtway. As a young man he was blessed to have six children. On July 22, 1978 he was united in marriage to Loraine Marie Randall and their families were joined as one. Shorty is survived by his wife, Loraine Courtway of Union, MO; by five children, Edmund Courtway of Washington, MO Freda Messex and significant other, Kevin Oshia, of Sullivan, MO, Carl Courtway and wife, Sue, of Union, MO, Melody Hulsey of Robertsville, MO and Billy Jo Courtway, known to all as B.J., of Washington County; by two brothers, William Courtway and wife, Lucy, of Sullivan, MO and Lawrence Courtway of Sullivan, MO; by one sister, Geraldine Briggs of Union, MO; by fifteen grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. Shorty was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Corene Courtway; by two children, Brian Courtway and William Courtway, known to all as Billy; by six brothers, Henry Courtway, Clyde Courtway, Michael Courtway, Clarence Courtway, David Courtway and Joe Courtway; and by four sisters, Mary Turtine, Joyce Todaro, Mildred Fox and Lorna Revelle. Shorty was a Christian, believing in the Lord as his Savior and had been attending Apostolic Church in Richwoods, MO. During his working career he was employed at Madison County Sawing and Sealing in Bethalto, IL for about thirty years and was a custodian for the city of Union, MO for seven years. He loved spending time outdoors and in his younger years enjoyed riding four wheelers and going hunting. What meant most to him was time spent with family. The love and many precious memories they created together will forever by cherished by them all. A kind and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great and great-great-uncle, cousin and treasured friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO. Interment will be in Horine Cemetery in Richwoods, MO.
