OBITUARY Phyllis Ann Cordell of St. Clair, MO departed this life in St. Clair, MO on Thursday, March 30, 2023, having reached the age of eighty-nine years, seven months and twenty-three days. Phyllis was born in Hannibal, MO on August 7, 1933, daughter of John Edward Bradshaw and Esther Adeline Bradshaw nee Mahood. On November 7, 1954 she was united in marriage to Robert Henry Cordell and seven children came to bless this union. Phyllis is survived by her sons, Paul H. Cordell of Union, MO and Dr. Robert C. Cordell and wife, Dr. Casey, of Independence, MO; by her daughters, Sarah Haberberger and husband, Leroy, of Union, MO, Alice Evans and husband, William, of Union, MO, Mary Mook and husband, Brett, of Murfreesboro, TN, Laura Cordell and husband, Michael Lobash, of LaGrange, IL and Martha E. Miller of Topeka, KS; by her brother-in-law, Ralph C. Cordell of St. Louis, MO; by fourteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, one niece, one nephew, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, John and Esther Bradshaw; by her husband, Robert H. Cordell; by her son-in-law, Jeff Miller; and by her sister, Maxine Bradshaw. Phyllis was a Christian, having been baptized at Calvary Baptist Church in Hannibal, MO early in life and was a member of First Baptist Church in St. Clair, MO. She was faithful to serve in the church as Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher. In 1951, she graduated from Hannibal High School. During her working career she was employed as a bookkeeper for The Bankers Bond and Securities Company in Hannibal as well as Farmers and Merchants Bank in St. Clair. Phyllis made caring for her home and family her main job in life and never tired of it. In her younger years she enjoyed working in her orchard, canning her produce and tending to her flower garden. She was a life-long reader and enjoyed going to the library. Phyllis enjoyed spending time in her kitchen and loved to cook and bake for her family. Spending time with her family brought her great joy that held dear in her heart. The love they shared and many precious memories they created together will be forever cherished. A kind and loving mother, wife, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, great and great-great-aunt, cousin and treasured friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at First Baptist Church in St. Clair, MO with Rev. Michael Kinion officiating. Interment will be in Union City Cemetery in Union, MO. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in St. Clair, MO. The family is grateful to the staff at St. Clair Nursing Center for the love and care they provided to Phyllis. The family was served by Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO.
