OBITUARY Paul Vincent Elder of Luebbering, MO departed this life at his home on Sunday, April 13, 2025, having reached the age of seventy-nine years, six months and three days. Paul was born in Ferguson, MO on October 10, 1945, son of Melvin Callistius Elder and Ruth Frances Elder nee Schindler. On December 24, 1969 he was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Byrd and five children came to bless this union. Paul is survived by his children, Scott Elder and wife, Allison Power-Elder, of Lucas, TX, Bryan Elder of St. Louis, MO, Jacquelyn Elder of Austin, TX, Gwendolyn Elder and husband, Sunghyun Kim, of Buffalo Grove, IL and Carolyn Elder and husband, Kevin Brown, of Ashland, OR; by two brothers, Richard Elder and wife, Judy, of St. Clair, MO and mark Elder and wife, Miriam, of Bowling Brook, IL; by four sisters, Marilyn Stanley and husband, Ralph, of Oakville, MO, Geraldine Brennan and husband, Terry, of Winchester, MO, Elaine Smith of Lake St. Louis, MO and Barbara McCown and husband, Willie, of St. Louis, MO; by seventeen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Ruth Elder; by his wife, Barbara Elder; by two brothers, Melvin J. Elder and Gene Elder; and by two sisters, Kathleen Dumolin and Mary Bratcher. Paul was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Cedar Hill, MO, where he took pride in his service for the kingdom. He was proud to have served his country, retiring from the United States Air Force. During his working career he was employed by General Electric and IBM as a computer technician, retiring after thirty-six years. Paul enjoyed playing horseshoes, corn hole, watching sports and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan. He also took pride in caring for his yard. He cherished the time spent with his children and grandchildren and the many precious memories they created together will forever live on in their hearts. Known by most in the family as "Uncle Paul", he was always there to lend a hand or a well timed joke, and to remind his brothers who won the last horseshoe tournament. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and anyone who crossed his path. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, April 19, 2025 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO with the family officiating the service. A private committal will take place at a later date.
