OBITUARY Opal Lee Kamper of St. Clair, MO departed this life at her home, surrounded by the love of her family, on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, having reached the age of ninety-eight years, eleven months and twelve days. Opal was born in St. Clair, MO on September 14, 1926, daughter of Albert Harrison Sohn and Josephine Elizabeth Sohn nee Jones. On March 4, 1944 she was united in marriage to Elmer Ray Kamper and three children came to bless this union. Opal is survived by her daughter, Diane Beckman and husband, Marc, of St. Clair, MO; by her son, Doug Kamper and wife, Carol, of St. Clair, MO; by her daughter-in-law, Ana Kamper of St. Clair, MO; by her granddaughter-in-law, Patti Kamper of Lonedell, MO; by ten grandchildren, Debbie Rice and husband, Rick, of Kearney, NE, Dawn Kleinheider and husband, Dennis, of Union, MO, John Fisher of CO, Dana Linhoff and husband, Paul, of St. Clair, MO, Darlene Copeland and husband, Jeff, of Rosebud, MO, Robert Easley and wife, Lisa, of St. Peters, MO, Paul Colburn and wife, Toni, of Kokomo, IN, Francine Sitzes and husband, Steve, of Beaufort, MO, Mark Beckman of Union, MO Selena Berning of Luebbering, MO and Adam Berning and wife, Alicia, of Luebbering, MO; by twenty-seven great-grandchildren, seventeen great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. Opal was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Josephine Sohn; by her husband, Elmer Kamper; by one son, James Kamper; by two grandsons, Buck Kamper and Spike Kamper; by her step-mother who raised her, Minnie Sohn nee Pilkenton; by her sisters, Juanita Weber and Irene Weber; by her half-sisters, Alberta Hawkins, Elsie Unnerstall and Selma Gullett; and by her step-siblings, Henry Sutterfield and Richard Sutterfield. Opal was a Christian and past member of Virginia Mines Baptist Church in Lonedell, MO, living a life serving God. During her working career she was employed by International Shoe Company as a floor lady, retiring after forty-two years of service to the company. She was a talented seamstress, enjoyed working in her yard and garden and loved painting her home and furniture. What meant most to her was time spent with family. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will be forever cherished by them all. A kind and loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great and great-great-grandmother, aunt, great and great-great-aunt, cousin and treasured friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, August 29, 2025 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO with Rev. Kevin Pewitt officiating. Interment will be in United Methodist Cemetery in St. Clair, MO. Memorials may be made to the cemetery.
