Mary Kathryn Peterson, known to all as Kay, of Union, MO departed this life in Lonedell, MO on Friday, July 12, 2024, having reached the age of seventy-four years, three months and nineteen days. Kay was born in El Paso, TX on March 23, 1950, daughter of Leland Albert Hufford and Vera Pauline Hufford nee Elkins. As a young woman she was united in marriage and blessed to have one daughter. Later in life she was united in marriage to Clark Peterson on December 21, 1998 Kay is survived by her husband, Clark Peterson of Union, MO; by her Children, Tonya Kelso and husband, Larry, of Lonedell, MO, Joey Peterson and wife, Trayce, of St. Clair, MO and Jennifer Peterson; by two brothers, Gene Hufford and Jim Hufford of Wichita, KS; by her grandchildren, Courtney Kelso, Brendan Kelso, Bobby Peterson and wife, Callee and Brooke Winkler and husband, Shane; by her great-grandchildren, Zoey, Henry, Levi and Abigail; by brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Pauline Hufford; and by one brother, Rick Hufford. Kay was a Christian and a member of Compass Ministries in St. Clair, MO. During her working career she owned and operated her own retail clothing store after purchasing Lee's in St. Clair, MO, as well as working for Brown Shoe Company in Union, MO. Kay loved to go shopping, watching the hummingbirds and collect trinkets. Her pet Shih-tzu dogs were her pride and joy. She enjoyed the company and fellowship of family and friends and cherished the time spent with her grandchildren. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will be held dear in their hearts. A kind and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, step-mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great and great-great-aunt, cousin and treasured friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her. A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, July 28, 2024 at the Franklin County Baptist Association. A private committal will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to Compass Ministries in St. Clair, MO. The family of Kay Peterson entrusted the care of their loved one to Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO.
