Obituary

Martin Adam Strauser, Sr. of Sullivan, MO, departed this life in Sullivan, MO on Saturday, January 6, 2024, having reached the age of eighty-two years, ten months and eighteen days. Martin was born on the family farm about eight miles from Richwoods, MO on February 19, 1941, son of Charles Russell Strauser and Ethel Mary Strauser nee Caldwell. On august 17, 1963 he was united in marriage to Paula Jean Pryor and two sons came to bless this union. Martin is survived by his wife, Paula Strauser of Sullivan, MO; by his sons, Martin Strauser, Jr. known to all as Marty, and wife, Debbie, of St. Clair, MO and Shane Strauser and wife, Elizabeth, of High Ridge, MO; by one sister, Wilma Polly of Chicago, IL; by his grandchildren, Lisa Cole and husband, Graham, of Northwich Cheshire, UK, Mandy Lucero and husband, Dion, of Union, MO and Riley Strauser of High Ridge, MO; by his great-grandchildren, Isabelle Cole, Liam Lucero and Harper Lucero; by nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ethel Strauser; by his brothers, Dr. Glenn Strauser and George Strauser; and by one sister, Helen Williams. Martin was a Christian and member of New Hope Baptist Church in Sullivan, MO, being very active in the church, teaching Sunday School classes and providing children's church with Paula for thirteen years. He grew up riding horses, caring for cattle and listening to the Grand Ole Opry on the radio, His mother was a teacher of a one room schoolhouse and they would ride together in a buggy to get to school. After graduating from Sullivan High School in 1959, Martin earned his Associates Degree from Flat River Jr. College in Flat River, MO, a Bachelor's Degree from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, MO and a Master's Degree from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO. He taught Industrial Technology at St. Clair High School for thirty-one years. Martin loved teaching and cared for every one of his students. He was the Board Chair (President) of Washington County Soil & Water Conservation District for twenty-two years and was still serving the district until his passing. He was also a member of both the Missouri and National Cattleman's Association, Missouri Retired Teachers Association, the Missouri State Teachers Association and Phi Delta Cappa National Honor Society. He loved working the family farm, working outside, raising cattle and doing rotational grazing to make the farm more successful. Martin always believed that the land belonged to God and that there were always three people in his marriage, God, Martin and Paula. What meant most to him was time spent with family. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will forever be cherished by them all. A kind and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, great and great-uncle, cousin and treasured friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 20, 2024 at First Baptist Church in St. Clair, MO with Pastor John Pursley, assisted by Pastor Ray Bisher and Pastor Fred Miller. Interment will be in Reedville Cemetery in Sullivan, MO. Memorial may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The family entrusted the care of their loved one to Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO.
