Marion David Matthews, known to all as David, of St. Clair, MO departed this life in Union, MO on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, having reached the age of ninety years, five months and eight days. David was born in Dixon, MO on April 16, 1934, son of Marion Thornton Matthews and Irma Matthews nee West. On February 14, 1992 he was united in marriage to Linda Faye Welch. David is survived by his wife, Linda Matthews of St. Clair, MO; by his children, Ken Matthews and wife, Pam, of Cuba, MO, Lynn Hanson of St. David, AZ, Tim Matthews of Reedley, CA and Kim Babich and husband, Ronald, of St. David, AZ; by his step-son, Kevin Rousan of St. Clair, MO; by one sister, Marie Humphrey of Vienna, MO; by his brother-in-law, Tom Welch of St. Clair, MO; by seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. David was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Irma Matthews; by his brothers, Henry Matthews and Carl Matthews; and by one sister, Rosella Curtis and by two grandsons, Bradley David Smith Jr., and Joshua Smith. David was a Christian and member of United Methodist Church in St. Clair, MO. He was proud to have served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War, from 1952 through 1963 for a total of ten years and three months. During his working career he was a carpenter, first out of a union hall in California and then working primarily out of the Carpenters Local 1839 union hall in Washington, MO, retiring after about fifty years of service. David loved to go hunting for deer, fishing and always seemed to be working on something. He also loved to listen to bluegrass music and travel. What meant most to him was time spent with family. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will be cherished by them all forever. A kind and loving husband, father, father-in-law, step-father, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and treasured friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Round Pond Cemetery in Salem, MO with Pastor Barry Baugh officiating. Memorials may be made to Round Pond Cemetery. The family entrusted the care of their loved one to Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO.
