OBITUARY Loretta Bryan Thompson of St. Clair, MO departed this life in St. Clair, MO on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, having reached the age of ninety-five years, ten months and fourteen days. Loretta was born in Leasburg, MO on September 2, 1928, daughter of John William Bryan and Laura Edna Bryan nee Hazlett. On April 2, 1953 she was united in marriage to Forest Adrian Thompson at First Baptist Church in St. James, MO, and two children came to bless this union. Loretta is survived by her son, Keith Thompson and wife, Ruth Ann, known to all as Annie; by her daughter, Karen Woodcock and husband, Philip; by her grandchildren, Lori Herbst and husband, Andy, Leann Weirich and husband, Travis and Brett Thompson; by her great-grandchildren, Adrian Thompson, Gentry Weirich and Garren Weirich; by many nieces and nephews and friends. Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, John and Laura Bryan; by her husband of sixty-one years, Forest Thompson. Loretta was a Christian and charter member of St. Clair Southern Baptist Church in St. Clair, MO since 1982. She was saved at the age of twelve and her church meant a lot to her. She earned her Bachelor Degree in Education from the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. Loretta taught in public grade schools for thirty years, beginning in 1946 for two years in a one room school house, two years of second grade in Sullivan, MO and then two years of second grade and twenty-two years of kindergarten in St. Clair, MO, retiring in 1988. She was a member of Franklin County Retired Teachers Association and Missouri State Teachers Association. A kind and loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great and great-aunt, cousin and treasured friend. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her. A private graveside services will be held at Crestview Memorial Park in St. Clair, MO with Rev. Bill Savage officiating. Memorials may be made to Franklin County Retired Teachers Scholarship Fund. The family of Loretta Bryan Thompson entrusted the care of their loved one to Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO.
