OBITUARY Leona Rose Collins of Union, MO departed this life in Creve Coeur, MO on September 11, 2022, having reached the age of eighty-two years, six months and ten days. Leona was born in Union, MO on March 1, 1940, daughter of Elmer David Overschmidt and Viola Leona Overschmidt nee Kindel. As a young woman she was united in marriage and blessed to have nine children. Leona is survived by seven children, Dana Collins and husband, Richard Melvin, of Duluth, MN, Connie Collins of New Haven, MO, Nadine Pfeiffer and husband, Bruce, of Edwardsville, IL, John Collins and wife, Becky, of Union, MO, Lance Collins and wife, Angela, of St. Clair, MO, Shane Collins and wife, Donna, of St. Clair, MO and Sharon Helling and husband, John, of Union, MO; by eleven grandchildren, Matthew Turner and wife, Kristen, Megan Pfeiffer, Nathaniel, Daniel, Josie, Bryce, Adrianna and Luke Collins, Natalie, Madelyn and Sophia Helling; by two great-grandchildren, Braylen and Brendal Turner; by one sister, Jerrine Lindemann and husband, Joe, of St. Clair, MO; by one sister-in-law, Dianne Overschmidt; by one brother-in-law, Jay Rohrer; by nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. Leona was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Viola Overschmidt; by two sons, Patrick and Kent Collins; by her brother, Francis Overschmidt; and by one sister, Linda Rohrer. Leona was a Christian and had attended both St. Clare Catholic Church in St. Clair, MO and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Union, MO, where she was active in many church functions. She took great pride in decorating the altar and being a lector. Leona was a member of Daughters of Isabella St. Clare Circle 1082. During her working career she worked as a physical therapy aide for Cedar Crest Manor in Washington, MO for about twenty-five years. Leona was a great care giver and would donate her time to anyone in need. She enjoyed gardening and arranging flowers, sewing, painting, bible study, Dairy Queen, The Three Stooges and cooking. A few things her family enjoyed were her toll painting and baked beans. Leona was an avid sports fan of the Cardinals, Blues and Michael Jordan. But her grandchildren's teams were her favorite teams to cheer for. Leona went by many names but "Mom Collins" and "Grandma Ona" were among her favorites. The many precious memories created with family and friends will forever be cherished by them all. A kind and loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great and great-great-aunt, cousin and treasured friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her. Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Union, MO with Father Joe Post officiating. Interment will be in St. Clare Catholic Cemetery in St. Clair, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Union, MO.
