Obituary

OBITUARY Leon Estle Gullet of Union, MO departed this life in Union, MO on Wednesday, September 26, 2023, having reached the age of ninety-three years, three months and eleven days. Leon was born in St. Clair, MO on June 15, 1930, son of Estle Reece Gullet and Gertie Ethel Gullet nee Maupin. On June 27, 1959 he was united in marriage to Willodean House at First Baptist Church in Bolivar, MO. Leon is survived by his sister, Glenda Kliethermes and husband, Tony, of Washington, MO; by his nieces, Kori Kliethermes of Washington, MO, Lindsay Obermark nee Kliethermes and husband, Brian, of Washington, MO, Diane Watson nee Pottenger and husband, David, of Oklahoma City, OK and Kathleen Herman nee Pottenger and husband, Ray, of Marshall, TX; by his nephew, TJ Kliethermes and wife, Crystal, of Conifer, CO; by great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many cherished friends. Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Estle and Gertie Gullet; by his wife, Willodean Gullet; by his sister, Jenell Gullet; and by his brother, William H. Gullet. Leon was a Christian, and had accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior in a revival led by Rev. Charles E. Clemmons at First Baptist Church in St. Clair, MO on April 20, 1953. He was baptized in Indian Creek above Oermann's bridge on May 17, 1953 and became a lifelong member of Frist Baptist Church in St. Clair, MO, where he was ordained as a Deacon in 1957 and served many years. Leon graduated form Southwest Missouri State University in May of 1953. He then was proud to have served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War in the United States Army Intelligence Division, being stationed in Germany. After being discharged he went on to employment at the Defense Mapping Agency Aerospace Center in St. Louis, MO, retiring July 3, 1985, after thirty years of service. After his retirement he enjoyed spending time working on his farm and at the Franklin County Baptist Camp in Spring Bluff, MO. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and writing. A kind and loving brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and treasured friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, October 2, 2023 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO with Rev. Jim Plymale officiating, being assisted by Rev. Jerry Cowan. Interment with full military honors will be in Crestview Memorial Park in St. Clair, MO. Memorials may be made to the Franklin County Baptist Association.
