OBITUARY Laverne Charlene Mowery, known to most as Grandma, of Union, MO departed this life at her home, surrounded by the love of her family, on August 4, 2022, having reached the age of seventy-eight years, three months and twenty-six days, Laverne was born in Dixon, MO on April 9, 1944, daughter of Claude Joseph Rowden and Martha Jane Rowden nee Fisher. As a young woman she was blessed to have four children. On July 4, 1995 she was united in marriage to Richard Mowery. On March 10, 2019 she was united in marriage to Elrod Frank Burris, known to all as Bud. Laverne is survived by her husband, Bud Burris of Union, MO; by three children, Tarenda Bell and husband, Roger, of St. Clair, MO, Ronald Bulin and wife, Julie, of Perryville, MO and Patrice Willard and husband, Tim, of Union, MO; by ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, step-children, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. Laverne was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Martha Rowden; by her husband, Richard Mowery; by one son, Donald Bulin; by her brothers, Charles, Lamoine, Stanley, Murl and Leo Rowden; and by her sisters, Vera Thompson, Betty Angely, her twin Luvon Parker and infant Joann Rowden. Laverne was a Christian and member of Life Stream Church in Washington, MO. During her working career she was employed as a supervisor at Western Electric, as a seamstress at Kuppernheimer Men's clothing and a cook at Holy Trinity Day Care. She was a past member of the Red Hat Society. Laverne was an amazing cook, talented seamstress, making wedding dresses in her younger years, and loved to do remodeling. Sher also loved to draw and color. What meant most to her was time spent with her family. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will forever be cherished by them all. A kind and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, step-mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, great and great-great-aunt, cousin and treasured friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO with Rev. Paul Scheperle officiating. A private committal will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to Life Stream Church in Washington, MO.
