Obituary

OBITUARY Joseph Austin Landing of Union, MO departed this life at his home, surrounded by the love of his family, on Sunday, October 29, 2023, having reached the age of eighty-nine years, eight months and three days. Joseph was born in Sullivan, MO on February 26, 1934, son of Joseph Robert Landing and Minnie Landing nee Northcutt. On April 20, 1957 he was united in marriage to Rose Marie Gay and three daughters came to bless this union. Joseph was survived by his wife, Rose Landing of Union, MO by one day; by his daughters, Cindy George and husband Matthew of Sullivan, MO; Patti Kaase and husband Larkie, of Owensville, MO; and Tracy Landing and husband, Kelly Koehn of Prairie Village, KS; by one sister Barbara Nelson and husband, Ken of Owensville, MO; by his grandchildren, Cathy Dedert and husband Mike; Susan Luster and husband Mike; AJ Kaase and wife Leslie; Sherryl Cash and husband Danny; Britney McGuffin and husband Al; Tresa George and TJ Ward; and Renee Carr and husband Kevin; by fourteen great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Minnie Landing; by his brothers Edward Landing and James (Jimmy) Landing; and by three sisters Virginia Carr, Margaret Woodcock and Maryann Woodcock. Joseph was a Christian, being raised in the Baptist faith and believing in the Lord as his Savior. He was proud to have served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Joseph was fond of his time spent in England while in the service. During his working career he was employed by McDonnell Douglas Corporation, currently known as Boeing, as a mock-up specialist, serving the company for 30 years until his retirement in 1988. Joseph was proud of the projects he started there and the work he did on air and spacecraft. He was a member of American Legion Post 347 in St. Clair, MO for fifty years. He had a variety of interests throughout his life and his passions included hunting, fishing, boating, going gigging and trapshooting. Joseph was an avid reader, especially Louis L'Amour and enjoyed farming, woodworking and watching westerns on television. Other hobbies included playing cards and rebuilding cars and tractors. What meant most to him was the life and family he and Rose built together over their sixty-six years of marriage. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will live on in the hearts of many forever. A kind and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, great and great-great-uncle, cousin and treasured friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, November 2, 2023 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO with Pastor Duke West officiating. An American Legion Service will be conducted at 1:45 PM. Full military honors will be rendered at the conclusion of the funeral service. A private committal will take place at a later date at Midlawn Memorial Gardens in Union, MO. Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice or American Heart Association.
