OBITUARY
Joan Marie York of Union, MO departed this life at her home, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, having reached the age of eighty-two years, one month and twenty-one days. Joan was born in Detroit, MI on March 7, 1944, daughter of George Howard Koistinen and Charlotte Emeila Koistinen nee Overly. On October 14, 1967 she was united in marriage to Lyman Kenneth York and two children came to bless this union.
Joan is survived by her son, Kenneth York of Union, MO; by her daughter, Becky York of Union, MO; by her siblings, Betty VanLeer and husband, Merle, of the state of FL, Charlene Doelle and husband, Michael, of Las Vegas, NV and John Koistinen and wife, Janet, of Mio, MI; by her special friends, Michele Lawson and Joseph Bridger; by four grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, George and Charlotte Koistinen; and by her husband, Lyman York.
Joan was a Christian and member of First Baptist Church in Gray Summit, MO. During her working career she was employed at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO as a nurse, retiring after over fifty years of service. She enjoyed reading her Bible, drawing and doing various art work. Joan also enjoyed going to the senior center in Union, MO to fellowship with the folks there. What meant most to her was time spent with family. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will be cherished by them all forever.
A kind and loving mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, May 4, 2026 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO with Pastor Thomas Schmitt officiating. Interment will be in Brush Creek Cemetery in Gray Summit, MO.
