OBITUARY James Lewis Sherrell, Sr. of Union, MO departed this life in Eureka, MO on Monday, March 10, 2025, having reached the age of eighty-eight years, four months and six days. James was born in Kirkwood, MO on November 4, 1936, son of Fredrick Lewis Sherrell and Caroline Sherrell nee Putz. On June 12, 1962 he was united in marriage to Carolynn Sue Hardesty, known to all as Sue, and two sons came to bless this union. James is survived by his wife, Sue Sherrell of Union, MO; by his sons, James L. Sherrell, Jr. (Shawn) of Washington, MO and Brian K. Sherrell (Amy) of Washington, MO; by two brothers, Wayne Sherrell (Judy) of Cedar Hill, MO and Raymond Sherrell (Donna) of Cedar Hill, MO; by six sisters, Jene Sherrell of Nashville, TN, Mary Drennon of House Springs, MO, Linda Diekman of Eureka, MO, Laura Hyde of Flippen, AR, Lela Ege (Eric) of Oakville, MO and Lorraine Rose (Todd) of Benton, AR; by his grandchildren, Wilson Sherrell and Anniston Sherrell, both of Washington, MO; by brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. James was preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick and Caroline Sherrell; by three brothers, Fred Sherrell, Wendell Sherrell and John Sherrell, Sr.; and by two sisters, Judy Heinlein and Susan Ford. James was a Christian of the Baptist faith and previous member of First Baptist Church of Wildwood for forty years, a church which he built many years ago. During his working career he owned and operated James L. Sherrell Construction Company for over sixty years. He was a carpenter by trade and enjoyed building things. James loved being outdoors, whether fishing, hunting, taking care of his yard or tending his garden, which he once grew a nine-pound cantaloupe. What meant most to him was time spent with family. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will be cherished by them all forever. A kind and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and treasured friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO with Steven Cartwright officiating. Interment will be in First Baptist Cemetery in Wildwood, MO. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
