OBITUARY Dr. Ghalib Mohammad Ali Baqir of Houston, TX departed this life in Houston on Friday, March 17, 2023, having reached the age of ninety-two years, eight months and twenty-seven days. Ghalib was born in Hilla, Iraq on June 18, 1930, son of Mohammed Ali Baqir and Nejma Baqir nee Hashim. In June of 1963 he was united in marriage to Fern Doris Hoff and two children came to bless this union. Ghalib is survived by his children, Pam Tashman and husband, Mike, of Houston, TX and A. Russell Baqir and wife, Tammy, of Alpharetta, GA; by his grandson, James Eastwold of Austin, TX; by two step-grandchildren, Thomas Cone of Nashville, TN and Joey Cone of Alpharetta, GA; by his sisters, Zahra Baqir of New Zealand, Buthaina Baqir of Baghdad, Iraq and Batool Baqir of Baghdad, Iraq; by sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. Ghalib was preceded in death by his parents, Mohammed and Nejma Baqir; by his wife, Fern Baqir; and by his brothers, Yahya Baqir and Louay Baqir. Ghalib earned his Doctorate in 1968 from St. Louis University and was a Professor at Alabama State University and Parks College in Illinois. He enjoyed tending to his flower garden and volunteering for Meals on Wheels. His children and grandson were his pride and joy and he cherished the time spent with them. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will be held dear in their hearts. A kind and loving father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and treasured friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, March 24, 2023 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO with Rev. Ben Kingston officiating. Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery in Lonedell, MO. Memorials may be made to Miniature Schnauzer Rescue of Houston, TX.
