Obituary

Gala Marie York nee Flurry of St. Clair, MO departed this life at her home on September 16, 2021, having reached the age of fifty-eight years, three months and twenty-seven days. Gala was born in Chickasha, OK on May 20, 1963, daughter of Bill Virgil Flurry and Glenna Marie Flurry nee Edwards, known to all as Marie. On November 11, 1989 she was united in marriage to Frank Barry York, known to all as Barry, and two sons came to bless this union. Gala is survived by her sons, Drew York of St. Clair, MO and Brandon York and girlfriend, Maddy Weinhold, of Union, MO; by her parents, Bill and Marie Flurry of St. Clair, MO; by two grandchildren, Hayden Parmenter of Union, MO and Mabry Weinhold of Union, MO; by her brother, Bill Flurry and wife, Barbara, of Hillsboro, MO; by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Gala was preceded in death by her husband, Barry York. Gala was a Christian and member of St. Clair United Methodist Church in St. Clair, MO. During her working career she was employed at McDonnell Douglas Corporation in St. Louis, MO for about fifteen years. Gala had obtained her Master's Degree in Education from Missouri Baptist College then spent twenty-three years as an elementary school teacher, teaching second grade, first at House Springs Elementary and then at St. Clair Elementary. After her retirement she began working as a substitute teacher. Gala was very involved in her work and would do everything to the fullest. She was very artistic and crafty and loved to go swimming and camping. She also loved playing basketball and running track. What meant most to her was her time spent with her family. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy and she loved being a GiGi. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will be cherished by them all forever. A kind and loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, niece, aunt, cousin and treasured friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM Monday, September 20, 2021 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO with Pastor Donna Schofield Dolle officiating. Interment was in Crestview Memorial Park in St. Clair. Memorials may be made to the Franklin County Special Olympics.
