Obituary

OBITUARY Elsie Jewel Mester of St. Clair, MO departed this life in St. Clair on July 12, 2022, having reached the age of ninety-nine years, ten months and eight days. Elsie was born in Richwoods, MO on September 4, 1922, daughter of Vergil Sylvester Current and Gracia Current nee Casey. On December 6, 1941 she was united in marriage to Emerson Mester, known to all as Bud, and one daughter came to bless this union. Elsie is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Anderson and husband, David, of St. Clair, MO; by one sister, Kathryn Jobe of Washington, MO; by her brother-in-law, Bob Schallenberg of O'Fallon, MO; by her grandchildren, Nathan Anderson and wife, Julianne, of Lonedell, MO and Cassie Anderson of Wildwood, MO; by her great-grandchildren, Emma and Sophia; by nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Vergil and Gracia Current; by her husband, Bud Mester; by her brother, William Current; and by one sister, Helen Dixon. Elsie was a Christian and member of 1st Baptist Church in St. Clair, MO. She was a former member of Prospect Baptist Church in Lonedell and New Hope Baptist Church in Sullivan, MO. She was active in the church with various functions including vacation bible school. During her working career she was employed by R&R Ace Hardware and International Shoe Company, both in St. Clair, MO, for many years. In her younger years she loved to play softball and was at one time the only girl on the boy's team. Elsie also loved to tend her flower and vegetable garden, can her produce, camp with the family and was a good cook. She cherished the time spent with her family. The love they shared and the many precious memories they created will forever live on in their hearts. A kind and loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great and great-great-aunt, cousin and treasured friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, July 18, 2022 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO with Rev. Dick Hinson officiating. Interment will be in Prospect Cemetery in Lonedell, MO. Memorials may be made to 1st Baptist Church in St. Clair, MO or Prospect Baptist Church in Lonedell, MO.
