OBITUARY Dupree Peter Heard of St. Clair, MO departed this life in Washington, MO on March 24, 2022, having reached the age of eighty-three years, eight months and twenty-two days. Dupree was born in Atlanta, GA on July 2, 1938, son of Garfield Heard and Okerlee Heard nee Harris. On September 28, 1968 in New York, NY he was united in marriage to Margaret Helen Kangas and two sons came to bless this union. Dupree is survived by his wife, Margaret Heard of St. Clair, MO; by his sons, Dupree Peter Heard, II of New York, NY and Daniel Philip Heard and wife, Veronica, of San Antonio, TX; by three grandchildren, Monica Heard, Maya Heard and Devin Heard, all of San Antonio; by his brother-in-law, Allen Kangas of Gladwin, MI; by his cousins, Annisteen Robinson of Port St. Lucia, FL and Stanley Sanders of New York, NY; and by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and many friends. Dupree was preceded in death by his parents, Garfield and Okerlee Heard, sister-in-law Gertrude Atwell, and brother-in-law Orville Atwell. Dupree was a Christian of the Catholic faith and member of St. Clare Catholic Church in St. Clair, MO. He was proud to have served his country in the United States Air Force, entering on March 8, 1963, and receiving his honorable discharge on August 5, 1967, having attained the rank of Captain. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Montana State University and his Juris Doctorate Degree from Boston College School of Law. He was employed by the United States government in the Merit Systems Protection Board in St. Louis, MO for twenty-five years. He was also a member of the Missouri Bar Association. Dupree lived in the U.S. Virgin Islands for several years and served as Personnel Officer for the Virgin Islands Army National Guard. He was an avid reader and chess player. He loved watching science fiction movies and talking and meeting new people. Dupree loved the outdoors and the park like setting of his home. He also loved animals, especially his pet dogs and cats. What meant most to him was time spent with family. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will forever be cherished by them all. A kind and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and treasured friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him. A Funeral Mass and Military Honors will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 7, 2022 at St. Clare Catholic Church in St. Clair, MO with Father Eric Kunz officiating. A private committal will take place at a later date at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
