Obituary

Carol Evelyn Magruder nee Simon Carol Evelyn Magruder departed this life peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on April 11, 2024, having reached the age of 87 years. Carol was born in St. Louis, MO on July 23, 1936, daughter of Roland Henry Simon and Elizabeth Bernice Simon nee Baugh. On May 7, 1955, she was united in marriage to Russell Gene Magruder and four children came to bless this union. Carol is survived by her two children, Russell G. Magruder, Jr. and wife Tammy and Joyce C. Strothcamp and husband Matthew, all of St. Clair, by one sister, Dolores Morris and husband Chris of Warrenton, MO, one brother, Melvin Simon and wife Mary of O' Fallon, MO, eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Russell G. Magruder, by her parents Roland and Elizabeth Simon, two brothers, Ronald Simon and David Simon, and infant twin daughters. Carol was a Christian and a member of several bible based Christian churches throughout her life. She had a strong faith in God and the love of Jesus. Her life was a living example of her favorite bible verse "God is Love" 1 John 4:16. During her working years, she held several jobs including receptionist, florist, school food service and child care. She enjoyed volunteering for her children's activities and served as a Cub Scout pack leader and a Girl Scout troop leader. Later in life she volunteered at St. Clair Elementary in the Bulldog Buddy program. Carol enjoyed many hobbies including golfing and traveling with husband Russ and many friends, crafting, flower arranging and gardening. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she cherished the time spent with them. She was an avid cat lover and owned several cats throughout her life. Her current companion, Purry Furry, gave her great comfort during her final years. Carol was a beautiful soul who could always encourage you with a kind word or a funny joke. Otherwise known to her family as "Mammy", Carol was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister in-law, aunt, great aunt, cousin and treasured friend, she will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her. The family will gather for a private ceremony. Memorials are appreciated and may be made in her name to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Franklin County Humane Society, Halo for Animals, or any animal rescue organization.
