OBITUARY Barbara Jeanne Smith of St. Clair, MO departed this life in St. Clair on Friday, December 16, 2022, having reached the age of eighty-three years, nine months and two days. Barbara was born in Richmond Heights, MO on March 14, 1939, daughter of Ervin Frank Ehler and Grace Elizabeth Ehler nee Owen. As a young woman she was united in marriage and blessed to have five children. Barbara is survived by four children, Kevin Eric Griffith of Seattle, WA, Steven Frank Barkhurst of Washington, MO, Brian Lee Barkhurst and wife, Marnie Claunch, of St. Louis, MO and Nathan James Barkhurst and wife, Cheryl Renee, of St. Clair, MO; by her grandchildren, Johnathon Barkhurst, Samuel Barkhurst, Ethan Barkhurst, Emily Barkhurst and Ellison Barkhurst; by her great-grandson, Thomas Barkhurst; by nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Grace Ehler; by her husband, Frank Barkhurst; by one daughter, Karen Eva Griffith; by her brother, Ronnie Ehler; and by her sister, Janice McDermott. Barbara was very creative and enjoyed doing arts and crafts of all kinds. She was an avid reader, loved to write and enjoyed painting. Barbara also enjoyed working in her garden. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy and she especially loved being a grandmother. The love they shared and the very many precious memories they created will forever by cherished by them all. A kind and loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great and great-great-aunt, cousin and treasured friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
