Barbara Ann
Low
Jun 28, 1954 — Aug 1, 2026
St. Clair, MO
Barbara Ann Low passed away peacefully in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on Saturday, August 1, 2026 with family by her side. She had recently moved to Cape Girardeau area and had made many dear friends in a short amount of time. Barb was born on June 28, 1954 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Marlene Wideman Low & Robert George Low. Growing up in St. Louis you could find Barb on her bike around the neighborhood, at Granny’s house on the weekends helping in the garden, participating in Girl Scout duties, and volunteering with the local youth fellowship groups. Barb graduated in 1972 from Northwest High school. She often told stories that involved three of her dear friends, Marti (Leimbach) Kuerz, Kathy (Holtgrewe) Webber, Patty (Neal) Kiebler.
After graduation Barb went to work in the accounting department at St. Johns. She continued in this field of work until her retirement. She was a hard worker, and even in her youth would work multiple jobs to save up for her next project, a new car, or her first piece of land where she later had her home. She was proud of what she had and loved to share all that she could with her family, friends, and neighbors.
Barb was strong in her faith and was active in many different churches throughout her lifetime. St. Martin’s UCC, St. Johns UCC and St. Clair United Methodist Church. She was always ready to help in any capacity she was needed from serving in the kitchen, reading during services, and helping out with picnics and family activities. She would host her nieces and nephews for Vacation Bible School each summer, alongside their Mimi (Marlene).
Barb was extremely close with her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and well beyond. She is survived by her two sisters; Kathleen (Bill) Reynolds, of Pensacola, Florida; Elaine (Brett) Matthews, of Charleston, Missouri; her special, sister cousins; Sue (Mike) Roesch, of Arnold, Missouri; Kelly (Bill) Lashley, of Ballwin, Missouri; her nieces & nephews, Bob Reynolds, of Pensacola, Florida; Victoria (Michael) Lunn, of Lamar, Arkansas; Elizabeth (Chris) Roberts, of Charleston, Missouri; Joe (Hattie) Matthews, of Jackson, Missouri; her great niece & nephews, Drake Lunn, Ava Lunn, & James Lee Roberts; as well as countless other dear cousins that she treated like her own.
Aunt Barb, or Aunt B as she became affectionately known, loved her family dearly, and that extended well into her surrounding friend groups. She never said no to a spooky adventure, bonfires & smores, baking days, Six Flags rollercoasters, a cup of black coffee, Disney’s Tower of Terror, pumpkin carving day, soaking in a hot tub, exploring creeks, plays/musicals, the Kimmswick Applebutter Festival, a White Castle slider, or a viewing of a classic Hollywood masterpiece (her discretion of course). Aunt B brought the fun and giggles anywhere she went.
Barb was always up for a grand adventure, or a simple day with loved ones. She could often be found around her mom’s kitchen table playing Dominos, Farkle, Rummikub, or any other parlor game that she could win (because losing wasn’t an option). Apart from spending her free time with her family playing games, she had an avid love for travel. Egypt, Ireland, Jerusalem, Alaska, & tropical cruises with her mom, lent her some of her best memories and she loved to tell stories of her journeys. But if you knew her well, you knew her happiest place was with her toes in the sand, hearing the waves crash on the shoreline. The beach (specifically the white, sugar sands of Pensacola) was always calling her name. She loved to swim in the waves and take a walk shell hunting down to her favorite Crab Shack for some shrimp and the house cocktail on the patio. It was her favorite tradition while on vacation (that and a burger at McGuire’s).
Barb lived a full life, with more happiness than most of us can hope to experience. She found peace in the simple joys of life and wanted to share it all with those she loved most. She will be so very missed, but we will cherish all the love she has shown us through the years. Barbara Ann Low was one of a kind, and we are better for knowing such a classic.
