Robert Henry Cordell

OBITUARY Robert Henry Cordell of Union, MO departed this life in St. Clair on November 5, 2022, having reached the age of ninety-two years and six months. Robert was born in St. Louis, MO on May 5, 1930, son of Clifford McKinley Cordell and Gertrude Cordell nee Hundley. On November 7, 1954 he was united in marriage to Phyllis Ann Bradshaw and seven children came to bless this union. Robert is survived by his wife, Phyllis Cordell of St. Clair, MO; by his sons, Paul H. Cordell of Union, MO and Dr. Robert C. Cordell and wife, Dr. Casey Cordell of Independence, MO; by his daughters, Sarah Haberberger and husband, Leroy, of Union, MO, Alice Evans and husband, William, of Union, MO, Mary Mook and husband, Brett, of Murfreesboro, TN, Laura Cordell and husband, Michael Lobash, of LaGrange, IL and Martha E. Miller of Topeka, KS; by one brother, Ralph C. Cordell of St. Louis, MO; by fourteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, one nephew, one niece, extended family and many friends. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Gertrude Cordell; by one brother, infant William Cordell; by his sister, Maude Hood; by his son-in-law, Jeff Miller; and by his sister-in-law, Maxine Bradshaw. Robert was a Christian, having been baptized, confirmed and member at First Presbyterian Church in Union, MO. In his later years, he was a member and attended First Baptist Church in St. Clair, MO. Robert attended Indian Prairie School and graduated from Union High School, class of 1948. He was proud to have served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War with the 24th Infantry Division, entering on January 15, 1952 and receiving his honorable discharge on December 31, 1953. He was a proud member of Easter Lodge 575 AF & AM in St. Clair, MO. Robert had a rich work history, being employed by Edgar Murray International Harvester Farm Implement Dealership in St. Clair, MO from 1954 to 1960, Frimel & Trentmann Lumber Yard in St. Clair from 1960 to 1974 as assistant manager and at Spartan Showcase in Union, MO as a supervisor from 1974 until his retirement in 1999. Robert worked his livestock farm raising corn, wheat, hay and Polled Hereford Cattle. He was a dedicated family man, loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and brother. He will be lovingly remembered by all. Visitation will be from 4:00pm-8:00pm Thursday, November 10th at Russell Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, November 11, 2022 at First Baptist Church in St. Clair, MO with Rev. Michael Kinion officiating. Internment with full military honors will be in Union City Cemetery in Union, MO. Memorials may be made to the family for the Robert H. Cordell Union FFA Fund. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of the St. Clair Skilled Nursing Center and the Mercy Hospice Staff and volunteers that cared for Robert. The Cordell Family is being served by the Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair.
