Cathleen Evanell Schaffer

OBITUARY Cathleen Evanell Schaffer, also known as Cathy or “Nanie” to some, of Lonedell, MO departed this life at her home, surrounded by the love of her family, on Friday, October 13, 2023, having reached the age of sixty-six years and six months. Cathy was born on Scott Air Force Base in IL on April 13, 1957, daughter of Robert and Florence Montgomery nee Farrow. On January 22, 1977 she was united in marriage to Wayne Rudy Schaffer and three children came to bless this union. Cathy is survived by her children, Nichole Duncan and husband, Tracy, of Mexico, MO, Amanda Brown and husband, Bryan, of St. Clair, MO and Michael Schaffer and fiancé, Frances Crecelius, of Lonedell, MO; by three siblings, Cynthia Winchester and husband, Alan, of Lonedell, MO, Bob Montgomery and wife, Rose, of Granger, IN and Dianne Goode of MO; by her brother-in-law, Don Schaffer of St. Louis, MO; by her grandchildren, Tyler and Brandon Duncan, Preston, Bonnie, William, Logan and Kaitlyn Kavanagh and Sabastian and Leo Schaffer; by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Florence Thompson; by her husband, Wayne Schaffer; and by two siblings, Thomas Thompson and Doug Montgomery. Cathy was a Christian and believed in the Lord as her Savior. During her working career she was employed as a teacher for La Petite Day Care in Fenton, MO for over twenty years. She had a variety of interests throughout her life including watching Hallmark movies, do-it-yourself shows and home improvement shows on television. Cathy also enjoyed working in her garden, planting flowers and being outside enjoying nature. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy and she especially loved the time spent with her grandchildren, giving them kisses. The love they shared and many precious memories they created together will forever be cherished by them all. A kind and loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, cousin and treasured friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at St Francis of Assisi Lubbering Hall, Luebbering, MO. The family of Cathleen Evanell Schaffer entrusted the care of their loved one to Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO.
