Obituary
OBITUARY Frances Lee Phillips of St. Clair, MO, departed this life on Saturday, July 18, 2009, in Washington, MO, having reached the age of eighty-three years, one month and seventeen days. Frances was born in Valley Park, MO, on May 31, 1926, daughter of Amos Oliver Benson and Catherine Ellen Benson nee Gruver. On May 25, 1944, she was united in marriage to Robert Rudolph Phillips and one daughter came to bless this union.

Frances is survived by her husband, Robert Phillips of St. Clair; by one daughter, Dianna Mallett Queen and husband, Mick, of Sullivan, MO; by one grandson, Chance Mallett and wife, Becky; of Wentzville, MO; by two great-grandsons, Kyle and Jacob Mallett of Wentzville; by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Faith Benson, Dorothy Osborn and husband, Bud, Ted Phillips and wife, Joyce, all of St. Clair, Bill Phillips and wife, Hatsue, of Fullerton, CA, John Phillips and wife, Debbie, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Lola Rock of Sullivan, MO; by nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Catherine Benson; by her son-in-law, Richard Mallett; and by one brother, Clarence “Bud” Benson.

Frances was a Christian and a member of First Baptist Church of Villa Ridge, MO. She loved her church family and in younger years, graciously volunteered her time to church activities. During her working years, she had been employed as an inspector at International Shoe Company in St. Clair. Potting flowers and raising beautiful house plants was one of her favorite pastimes. Above all else, spending time with her family made her the happiest. Her grandson and his children were her pride and joy and she cherished the time they shared.

A devoted and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, great and great-great aunt, cousin and friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, with the Rev. Roger Johnson officiating. Interment was in Midlawn Memorial Gardens, Union, MO. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
