Maurice Leslie Burnett, known to many as “Mo”, of St. Clair, MO, departed this life in St. Clair on Tuesday, June 9, 2009, having reached the age of eighty-five years and five months. Maurice was born in St. Clair on January 9, 1924, son of Ashford Leslie Burnett and Myrtle Burnett nee Lack. On September 11, 1948, he was united in marriage to Irmalee Mester and one son came to bless this union.

Maurice is survived by his wife Irmalee Burnett of St. Clair; by one son Keith Burnett and wife, Grace, of St. Clair; by two granddaughters, Tina Glass and husband, Daniel, of Brentwood, MO and Tiffany Burnett of St. Clair; by one sister, Mildred Jennings of St. Louis, MO; by his sister-in-law, Tomsy Burnett of Temple, TX; by one brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, Ashford and Myrtle Burnett; and by one brother, Fay Burnett.

Maurice was a Christian and member of Prospect Baptist Church in Lonedell, MO. He served as a deacon of the church since November 1, 1964. He was proud to have served his country during World War II in the Army, entering March 16, 1943 and receiving his honorable discharge on February 22, 1946. During his working years he was employed at McDonnell Douglas Air Craft and was a retiree of the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers Local 837 of St. Louis. Maurice enjoyed the outdoors and spending time in his garden was one of his favorite pastimes. He always looked forward to camping and fishing with family and friends. Listening to blue grass music and going to blue grass festivals was another of his favorite pastimes. His most treasured time spent with his family.

A kind and loving father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation was held after 4:00 PM Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair. Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM Friday, June 12, 2009, at Prospect Baptist Church, Lonedell, MO, with the Rev. Fred Miller officiating. Interment was in Prospect Cemetery, Lonedell, MO. Memorials may be made to Prospect Church Building Fund.
